Latest character to be completed!
I used UppercutDesign's work uppercutdesign.deviantart.com/… as a base for the character pose, in turn based on Phil Bourassa's style philbourassa.deviantart.com/.
Description:
Orion is the combination of a human body and the essence of a long-extinct race of energy beings from a planet far from Earth (in the direction of the middle star of Orion's belt - hence the name). This race of aliens, scientific in their beliefs, do not believe in any kind of after-life. Some of them, afraid of the oblivion they believe awaits them after death, choose to use their advanced technology preserve their consciousness and energy-essence in a kind of artificial after-life, which allows them to spend an eternity in a euphoria-like state with the consciousnesses of their loved ones. These after-life devices are launched into the 'heavens' to spend eternity among the stars.
However, what this race did not count on is the fact that other civilizations would eventually discover these vessels and realise that the contained life-force of these ancient beings are essentially phenomenally powerful energy sources that can be used like batteries to power large space craft.
The vessel containing Orion's essence and that of his family is eventually ransacked. Orion's after-life device is damaged and jettisoned toward Earth, while those of his family are taken aboard one of Commander Reave's Warships and used to power it. Orion's after-life device eventually crash lands on Earth, freeing Orion's essence and allowing him to bond permanently with the human who discovers it.
Orion learns the fate of his family and swears vengeance upon Reave for harvesting his family's 'souls'.
His powers are based on his alien abilities to absorb and discharge a form of cosmic energy. He can fly, generate powerful energy blasts, perform warp jumps through space and also create rudimentary hard-light objects or weapons.
His uniform is partially composed of a metal whose name roughly translates as 'star-metal', based on its uncanny and passive ability to continually absorb, redirect and refract ambient light, giving it a starry appearance.
